I never expected this many people in Quebec shared this passion for Japanimation and manga. I’d say that at least 50% of the people there were cosplayers and the other half was wearing wigs or accessories. That was truly cool; I didn’t felt misplaced at all... since I was myself cosplaying as...



L yeah. (GOT IT?) And that was a MISTAKE. Why? I was hugged and my ass was grabbed by at least 5 underage berserk fangirls despite having the “free hugs” card on me. Yes, I don’t really know if the “free hugs” cards are a tradition elsewhere in a comic-con, but at the Montreal Otakuthon, it’s a must. At least, my partner who was cosplaying FF7’s Yuffie thinks so.

I felt great love and happiness coming from all the participants, as if everybody was relief to release and sharing their otakuness, their geekness, their PASSIONS with people exactly as shameless as them. I certainly felt that way.

The convention took place at the Montreal’s convention center (DAH!), which is a huge and classy building downtown. There were a lot of things to do and so little time. Between the photo shoots of the many cool cosplayers my friend insisted on doing, we had time to cover the “buying place” as I like to call it, with all the artists and dealers and the Otakuthon Idol, where contestants sing songs in Japanese in front of like 200 persons and are being judge afterward. I had a picture with the winner; I must say she was INCREDIBLE as she sang the theme of the anime Cutie Honey Flash.

We had time to sit at the Café Cosplay, where another kind of singers were doing Karaoke. That was hella funny. And we had little time to sit in one of the many projection rooms... to enjoy the YURITHON AND YAOITHON. That was very cool, a whole day of yuri and yaoi furry. YAY!

The only regret I have, having paid 25$ for a day. OUCH. I thought it was pretty expensive, but I enjoyed every bit of it. Next year I’ll pay in advance, believe it! It’s like 35$ for the weekend. I’ll make sure to attend the masscarade, a ballroom dance, on Saturday night. And maybe make the Otakuthon Idol, who knows? I’d sing the second Death Note opening. What do you think?

I used all my charms to convince Plutie to play the epic Japanese movie SEVEN SAMURAI (1954) by the well known director Akira Kurosawa. Here is a quick summary:



A veteran samurai, who has fallen on hard times, answers a village's request for protection from bandits. He gathers 6 other samurai to help him, and they teach the townspeople how to defend themselves, and they supply the samurai with three small meals a day. The film culminates in a giant battle when 40 bandits attack the village.

THE MOVIE WILL BE PLAYING AT 01:00 GMT.
